iACT is proud to partner with St. Edwards University. We will provide a free host training for the Red Bench: Interfaith Conversations That Matter on the campus of St. Edward’s University.  The Red Bench is a dialogue program centered on moderated small group discussions that are genuinely respectful and safe.  The program is designed to address the most pressing needs of our time: improving Interfaith understanding and civil discourse in our society. The format is structured and allows each individual to be heard.  No one is expected to be an expert on the topics, but all are invited to share from their personal experiences and listen with their hearts. Each table is “hosted” by one or two table hosts who moderate the Red Bench conversation.

We are currently signing up individuals who would like to train as conversation circle hosts. Training does not obligate you to host, but it is a great skill in learning how to facilitate a respectful conversation.

The training will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, from 6:30pm until 8:30pm at Fleck Hall Rm#305, St. Edwards University, 3001 S. Congress Ave. http://www.stedwards.edu/map/maincampus

History of the Red Bench: Interfaith Conversations that Matter.

The Red BenchSeveral years ago, renowned UT Professor, Dr. Betty Sue Flowers, recommended that organizations place red benches in public spaces. The idea was simple — by sitting on one of these red benches you were signaling to others that you were open to a conversation that really matters. The red bench is a symbol of a place for conversations that “cultivate peace and respect.”

Inspired by Dr. Flowers’ idea, iACT launched The Red Bench program in 2009 and it has quickly grown into a genuine community of sharing. We focus on ideas and issues that are addressed by all of the great wisdom traditions and “topical” subjects that face our community and nation.
