At iACT, we are so grateful for our Board of Directors! In this Board Spotlight, John McGlothlin tells us a little more about himself.
John McGlothlin, VP of Planning

Q: Where are you from? How long have you been in Austin?

A: I grew up in Mesquite and have been in Austin for the past 52 years.

How long have you served on the iACT Board?

I am in my 4th year.

What made you want to serve as an iACT Board Member?

Our church group has participated in the Hands on Housing program for well over 20 years, so that was my introduction to the good works of iACT.  As I have learned more about the other iACT programs and services, it made it easy to say “yes” when asked to consider serving on the board.

What do you enjoy the most about your role as a Board Member of iACT?

Without question, it’s the diversity within the members of the Board itself.  So many faith perspectives working together is a beautiful thing.

What’s the most challenging thing about working as a Board Member of iACT?

Over the past couple of years, our biggest challenge has been related to the Refugee Program.   Substantial cuts in funding, a continuing need, and an uncertain future have all contributed to some difficult decisions.

What’s the most rewarding thing about being a Board Member of iACT?

It’s hard to select just one thing.  I feel very privileged to have made many friends in faith communities across Austin that I would likely not otherwise have touched.

Why would you encourage others to support the work of iACT?

iACT is unique in its goal to bring those of many faiths  together to work for the good of the community.  Getting to be a part of that community-wide effort is very special.

Thanks so much for sharing your story with us, John!
