At iACT, we have great appreciation for the wonderful volunteers who make our service work possible! In this Volunteer Spotlight iACT Volunteer Margit Steimle tells us a little more about herself.

Q: How long have you been in Austin?
A: I’ve lived in Austin since 2004. I am an immigrant from Germany and moved to the USA in 1986.
Q: How long have you volunteered with iACT?
A: I’ve volunteered since 2022 with IACT. I previously volunteered for the housing program. I am currently volunteering as a mentor for refugee women.
Q: What made you want to volunteer with iACT?
A: I like the enthusiasm of the staff and its leaders to make a difference for people from different cultures and backgrounds and give people a headstart to make it in this society.
We as Americans all come from other places and countries and we as a society need to come together in spite of our differences to bring people together, learn from each other and fight injustice and prejudice.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working with iACT?
A: We can in small ways contribute to make a difference in somebody else’s life and circumstances. I am grateful to learn so much about other cultures and people and it makes me a more humble and grateful person and it makes me realize what is really important in life.
Q: What’s the most challenging thing about working with iACT that you experienced?
A: There is so much need out there and we can only assist one person at a time.
Q: Why would you encourage others to perform similar volunteer work with iACT?
A: Giving back to society with our talents, skills and time is a way of being grateful what we have been given in talents, money and skills .
We are all our brother’s keepers and humanity is all one which is also the universal tenent of all the religions.
