Join Texas Family Literacy AmeriCorps to provide direct service to your community!

Texas Family Literacy AmeriCorps is a service program that provides literacy services to adults, children, youth and families in Texas communities. Literacy Services include English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Development (GED) preparation, Family Literacy, Early Childhood Literacy, Civics and Citizenship, Computer Literacy, Health Literacy, Financial Literacy, and more. Members are placed in local non-profit agencies and become an integral part of their direct service team providing hands-on instruction, managing volunteers, and supporting the agency as needed.

What does a commitment to AmeriCorps service involve?

Members commit to serving 1,700 volunteer hours over an 11-month term. The current Term of Service is August 15, 2014 – July 15, 2015. Members receive a $12,100 stipend, health care, valuable training and experience, and a $5,550 education award issued when you complete service that you can apply toward student loans or tuition. Members receive training and professional development through the Literacy Coalition and participate in various community service projects throughout their term.
