From mid-June until August 1st, the halls of Central Presbyterian Church in Austin rang with the sounds of laughter, clapping, singing, and, most importantly, children learning to speak English. This year, iACT’s summer refugee youth program, iLearn, served 141 refugee children between the ages of 5-18. These wonderful kids were provided a space to practice their English and academic skills throughout the summer, and were taken on a few special trips as well! You can see how much fun they had for yourself by watching this slideshow from the summer.
We hope to have an even better iLearn experience next summer. If you are or know of a refugee child in need of academic assistance, please reach out to iACT Refugee Youth Program Coordinator, Maggie Wagner, at mwagner@interfaithtexas.org or 512-386-9145×303.
