Note by Lubna Zeidan: I have known Sabah Naim Saab since she was a big-eyed little girl (before Saab became her last name). When she learned about our work with refugees, she offered to donate a box of her books to share with our young students in the iACT refugee program.

By Sabah Naim Saab
I am a children’s picture book author and self-publisher and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I am also a university teacher. I teach Mathematics, Computing, and English. My students at the university come from different backgrounds and countries. Some have chosen to migrate to Australia to start a new life after escaping war or danger in their own countries. I love my students and they’re the first to hear about my latest books.
Writing children’s books added color and magic to my life. I’ve been fascinated, since my own childhood, with illustrated children’s books; the stories, illustrations and fantasy. I wrote my first children’s stories when I was 24 years old as part of an assignment for a course I was taking at university but tucked them away and forgot all about them.
The challenges of life, work, and raising three beautiful kids took up all my time. A few years ago–after 25 years–I found these early stories among old belongings and the whole journey started again. I have self-published four books and one Postcards Box so far. They are:
- How Much do You Love me? (Book and postcards)
- Little Mouse Missy–Best Friends Party
- Little Owl Who Loved His Hat (English)
- Little Owl Who Loved His Hat (Arabic)
I am working on a new book, which will be published in 2020. My early stories are still unpublished, and I will be returning to them at some point.
I write and publish because I want children to experience a world of love, friendship, wisdom, imagination, peace, and most importantly joy. I want to impart a beautiful world to all children and fill their lives with moments of happiness and serenity.
I am so happy and honored to know that my books are now available to the children at IACT, their nursery, and summer program.
The photos of iACT kids reading my books made my day and put a big smile on my face!
