At iACT, we are so grateful for our Board of Directors! In this Board Spotlight Qusay Hussein tells us a little more about himself.

Qusay Hussein, iACT Board Member

Where are you from? How long have you lived in Austin?

I am from Musul. Iraq and I’ve lived in Austin for 11 years

How long have you served on the iACT Board?

It’s been a month.

What made you want to serve as an iACT Board Member?

I wanted to serve on the board because of the work iACT does in the community. Helping the refugee youth is the most beautiful program in my opinion and so is Hands on Housing which helps adults with disabilities. But I like all of iACT’s programs.

What do you enjoy the most about your role as a Board Member of iACT?

So far I like how they listen and how they welcome people of disability in their midst- it is an inclusive board and everyone listens and respects other people’s opinions. I also see the board as an inclusive and diverse group and I appreciate that.

What’s the most challenging thing about working as a Board Member of iACT?

I haven’t encountered any challenges yet, maybe there may be things later but I’m sure we will find ways to get around that. So far everyone has been very helpful and supportive.

What’s the most rewarding thing about being a Board Member of iACT?

The most rewarding thing is that I came from being a student in this agency’s English language program and now I am serving on the board of directors-so moving from a student and a client to being able to participate about making decisions for the agency is rewarding,

Why would you encourage others to support the work?

I would encourage everyone to support iACT to improve our community and create diversity. iACT helps refugees and other vulnerable populations become independent.

Thanks so much for sharing your story with us, Qusay!
