At iACT, we are so grateful for our Board of Directors! In this Board Spotlight Sam Greer tells us a little more about himself.

Where are you from? How long have you lived in Austin?
Houston, TX I came to college here from 1982-86, then moved back permanently in 1994.
How long have you served on the iACT Board?
Since January 2022…
What made you want to serve as an iACT Board Member?
To increase peace and understanding and reduce bigotry and prejudice
What do you enjoy the most about your role as a Board Member of iACT?
I enjoy contributing my time and talent to this worthy organization, and supporting the goal of cultivating peace, respect, and tolerance.
What’s the most challenging thing about working as a Board Member of iACT?
As with any nonprofit organization, finding funds to expand programming, secure facilities, and increase staff compensation is always a paramount challenge for board members…
What’s the most rewarding thing about being a Board Member of iACT?
The most fulfilling thing I have accomplished on the board of iACT is to develop a deep partnership between iACT and Austin Community College. ACC’s Service Learning program sponsors a Red Bench each semester with students from Psychology, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and other disciplines. Our Peace and Conflict Studies program assigns students as volunteers. And we are in the process of developing a volunteer pipeline for students across the college.
Why would you encourage others to support the work?
The world is so in need of peace and understanding now and always. iACT is uniquely positioned to increase tolerance and decency, reduce bigotry and racism, and help develop a more inclusive, supportive community.
