We conclude our Meet the Client series today with Ruby, Delta and Bubba, and James and Annette. These residents have all lived in Austin for many decades, and have rich histories in their communities. We are so excited to have been able to share these clients’ stories with you and encourage you to learn more about how you can become involved in our Hands on Housing events, so that you may be able to get to know your Austin neighbors, lend them a helping hand and be touched by their gracious spirits.

Ruby
Ruby

Ruby has lived in her home for 50 years. She has many grandchildren that often come to stay with her. She is very involved in her church community, and participates in community service as often as her health allows.

Maners
Bubba and Delta

At 87, Delta is mother to four children. Bubba, on the right in this picture, is her only living son. He currently lives with his mother and is her primary caretaker.  The family has a rich history in Austin. According to Bubba,  back in the 1950’s, when his father and his father’s best friends returned after fighting together in WWII, they started  a popular rodeo here in Austin.

Annette
Annette and James

Annette has been married to her husband James (not pictured) for 32 years, and they have lived in their current home for nearly 30 years. They have two daughters and two granddaughters. Both Annette’s and James’ fathers were in the Air Force, and James is himself a veteran of the Navy. James suffered a stroke several years ago and is now largely immobile. Annette has diabetes, is partially blind, has lost one leg and is in a wheel-chair.  One of their daughters and her family lives with them to help provide them with the care they need. Annette recently inspired an article on changing lives with acts of kindness.
