We are so grateful for our Hands on Housing volunteer intern, Nan! Nan began working with HoH in February of this year, and has been a great help to the program. She volunteers 14 hours a week, helping HoH staff with administrative support, such as processing and sending applications, managing folders, and staying organized overall. Nan is always willing to help out, no matter the task. She even helps with some of the “dirtier” jobs, like cleaning our sheds, and does so with a smile on her face!
Nan is originally from Xi’an China, and studied Architecture in Chicago before moving down to Austin, where she has now lived for a year. Interning with HoH is Nan’s first time really getting involved in community service, and she has loved the opportunity. When she moved to Austin, she began a part-time job, and wanted to find something fulfilling to do with her free time. She focused her search on housing, so she could share her architecture skills. Nan has most enjoyed the opportunity to meet diverse individuals, and learn more about poverty in Austin. Her favorite project has been visiting homes in Dove Springs, as she got to hear so many different stories and lend a helping hand to those in great need.
When Nan isn’t working as our amazing intern, she enjoys exploring Texas nature, and has visited several state and county parks this year. Thank you, Nan, for all you do.
