Why would a United Methodist pastor fast for the Muslim month of Ramadan?
Last summer Rev. Wes Magruder from the Dallas-Fort Worth area decided to fast in solidarity with his Muslim neighbors, not realizing what a deeply profound spiritual journey he was about to embark upon. This journey is beautifully captured in last year’s blog – the new methofesto.
Well, he’s at it again!
“I’m not a sadomasochist. Really. I don’t have a martyr’s complex either. I do not enjoy suffering. With that off my chest, here’s my big news: I’m observing Ramadan again this year. The experience last year was transcendent; I have never done anything so liberating, both socially or spiritually.” You can follow this year’s new blog – For the Common Great, where he offers daily reflections based on the theme of interfaith community building.
You can also watch Rev. Magruder’s speak about the highs and lows of last year’s Ramadan experience.
