At iACT, we are so grateful for our Board of Directors! In this Board Spotlight, Rev. Daryl Horton tells us a little more about himself.

Q: Where are you from? How long have you lived in Austin?
A: I am a native Austinite.
How long have you served on the iACT Board?
I have served on the iACT Board since 2015.
What made you want to serve as an iACT Board Member?
I wanted to serve on the iACT Board of Directors because it presented the unique opportunity to engage and build relationships with faith leaders from all around the city of Austin. I was also impressed with the numerous ways iACT supports and serves so many communities in our city. iACT has accepted and embraced their indispensable role of encouraging and initiating meaningful conversations throughout Central Texas, this was a major selling point for me as I truly wanted to be a part of these conversations.
What do you enjoy the most about your role as a Board Member of iACT?
What I enjoy most about being a Board Member of iACT is the relationships I have developed among past and present members. The Board is comprised of individuals with sincere desires to make a difference in the Austin community. We each bring unique perspectives and gifts to the organization, where we work together to unite the faith community and impact our city. I am grateful for our Board leadership, staff and members. I have learned meaningful life lessons from everyone.
What’s the most challenging thing about working as a Board Member of iACT?
The most challenging aspect of being an iACT Board Member is explaining to some the necessity and benefits of diverse faith leaders coming together. In a time where religious and denominational lines can be drawn deep in the sand, it can be difficult for some to sit at the table and recognize the critical work we can accomplish together.
What’s the most rewarding thing about being a Board Member of iACT?
The most rewarding thing about being an iACT Board Member is seeing the looks on the faces of the refugee children whose lives have been made the better through the service of iACT. It is rewarding to experience the moment when a conversation impacts a group of strangers in such a way that attitudes, behaviors and perceptions are changed. It is a joy to see faith leaders come together to share in one another’s joy and challenges, recognizing that our differences make us unique, not enemies.
Why would you encourage others to support the work of iACT?
I encourage others to support the work of iACT so they can partner with an organization that is making a difference in the lives of people who are often unseen. Supporting iACT is connecting to a network of faith leaders from around the city who understand the importance of coming together for a common good. To support iACT is to support healthy and meaningful conversations that change lives and impact our community.
