Hands on Housing Program Coordinator

Imagine your grandmother. Her warm smile, the neon floral-patterned moo moos she would wear that smelled like a combination of fabric softener and cats; the delicious wafts of her kitchen when she was preparing a family meal, and how excited she would be to utilize the china dish set she inherited from her mother; the tunes she would hum that would get stuck in your head for hours on end.

Now imagine your grandmother in her home, on a brutally hot, summer, Texas day, without air conditioning. There is no humming, no cooking, no smiling. There is only lethargy and misery, brought on by life-threatening temperatures.

More seniors than you probably realize are living this way in Austin. For this reason, iACT’s Hands on Housing program is focusing on keeping our seniors cool this summer. Thanks to Molitor Electric, we are able to install AC window units to homeowners in need. No one should have to live without air conditioning through a Texas summer, especially our precious seniors. Thank you to all our donors for making this possible in the Austin community. See one result of this special effort below.
