At iACT, we have great appreciation for the wonderful volunteers who make our service work possible! In this Volunteer Spotlight Lee Lever tells us a little more about himself.

Lee Lever

Q: Where are you from? How long have you been in Austin?

A: I grew up in Northern Illinois and 50 miles west of Chicago. I have lived in several states as a Mennonite pastor. I moved to Austin in 2011 and became the pastor of Austin Mennonite Church.

How long have you volunteered with iACT?

I have volunteered with iACT since 2012.

What made you want to volunteer with iACT?

iACT provides opportunities to serve alongside people of other faith traditions and to build bridges of friendship.

What do you enjoy the most about working with iACT?

I really appreciate the Hands on Housing program with its great team of women leaders and the opportunity it provides for people in my congregation to help a homeowner stay in their home and to work alongside people of other faith traditions.

What’s the most challenging thing about working with iACT that you experienced?

The most challenging about working with iACT is simply making the commitment and then following through on the opportunities to step outside my own comfort zone and engage other perspectives.

What’s the most rewarding thing about working with iACT that you experienced?

The most rewarding thing about iACT is the building of relationships and friendships in a society and culture that too often encourages divisiveness and polarization.

Why would you encourage others to perform similar volunteer work with iACT?

You should volunteer with iACT because it helps the Central Texas community on several levels. iACT helps those in need. iACT builds bridges of friendship and understanding. iACT offers  a vision of a community working together for common cause. iACT helps to break down barriers.

Thanks so much for sharing your story with us, Lee! If you’re an iACT volunteer who wants to share your story, or if you’re interested in finding volunteer opportunities with iACT, contact Maggie Wagner at mwagner@interfaithtexas.org
